Hamden Lights For Life
Hamden Lights for Life will be held on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m.(Rain date: October 5th) in Meadowbrook Park on Dixwell Avenue. Entertainment is being planned.

The donation for each luminary is $5. The luminary can be in honor/memory of a loved one. The word “HOPE” will be spelled out on a hillside with luminaries.

The people of Hamden are known for supporting good causes.  They know that Saint Raphael’s building a state-of-the-art center for cancer care will be good for so many in the community facing cancer.

A luminary is a decorative paper bag with a candle inside, often used in solemn, ceremonial events in the evening. Luminaries are often weighted down with sand and placed along pathways, roads or in patterns.

Funds raised from Hamden Lights for Life will go toward the McGivney Cancer Center in Hamden

Donations can be made in cash or by check, payable to the Saint Raphael Foundation.

Backround on Father Michael J. McGivney Cancer Center – Hamden Campus
In early May, Saint Raphael’s began the construction of a state-of-the-art center at 2080 Whitney Avenue. The satellite is expected to be open in early 2009.

Saint Raphael’s has begun a project that will lead to better and more accessible cancer care, part of Saint Raphael’s ongoing commitment to provide the most advanced and convenient care to the people of Greater New Haven

The new center will be called “The Father Michael J. McGivney Cancer Center – Hamden Campus,” in memory of the founder of the Knights of Columbus.

The new satellite is part of a larger plan to enhance cancer treatment, which also includes upgrades to cancer fighting equipment at the Father Michael J. McGivney Center For Cancer Care at Saint Raphael’s main campus in New Haven. In May, Saint Raphael’s opened the doors on a Cyberknife Center – the latest stereotactic radiosurgery system. Already this program is helping change outcomes for people with inoperable cancers.

The Hospital of Saint Raphael’s cancer fundraising campaign has a target goal of $15 million. Nearly $13 million has been already raised, to include a generous pledge of $3 million from the Knights of Columbus.
